When I cycled to Iran - About fear and feeling displaced | Bikepacking documentary
🚲 Hey there, fellow travelers! 🌎
Welcome back to my channel! I'm Giant Cheerio, a bikepacking adventurer exploring the world on two wheels since 2021!
An unconventional bikepacking journey through Iran.
This cycling adventure is different than everything I have experienced before.
Stranded right before the border of Iran with a broken gear shifter we find ourselves relying on the kindness of strangers during the first 200 km of our bike trip into Iran.
The discomfort, fear and uncertainty that I feel reveals a profound lesson and unexpected connections.
This is not just a bike trip, it's a testament to the transformative power of unconventional travel experiences in Iran.
Lean back & enjoy watching!
Cheerio, Goodbye, Salut & Adios!

💯 the people of Iran love Germans, even the government which is totally different than the population, doesn’t look down on Germans. I’m convinced at the end of your journey through this historic country, you will be a changed woman forever.

Being a woman, it's understandable you didn't feel as comfortable going out. I live in the States, and generally many women feel more vulnerable than men going out alone. In some cultures, expectations of the way women should behave are more restricted than those of men, though I can't comment specifically about Iran. I noticed even in the group of European cyclists you're the only woman.

Some time has passed since I have been to Iran and some other eastern countries and after some reflection I can say, that I didn’t feel very comfortable going out by myself. I felt like I needed my male companions in order to feel normal and safe. I can’t wait to get back to my European bubble, even though you have to watch out being out there by yourself as well. But it is a very different feeling of awareness

You should really get off yout high horse. You go through villages in Turkey and they are nice to you but still you complain. I suggest you talk to those Turks who have had encounters with villagers in Germany or Switzerland andask them about how they are treated. Then all of a sudden your experience would apear whole lot better.

    • @giantcheerio
      @giantcheerio 4 години тому

I don’t complain. I simply state what I observe. I don't sugarcoat anything. It's two cultures meeting each other. I'm sure they also didn't understand why we live the way we do. (Or in your terms, they "complained" about us.)

You guys have been fed so much lies and fear and hatred towards Iranians by western countries and media you can’t even get it out of your head while you’re seeing with your own eyes in Iran. You don’t get this kind of hospitality and generosity in west countries with western people. Hospitality sucks in western countries

  • @bbwoolfy

Love your videos, loved this one too. But it's unusual to see you so fearful. Did you notice in the scene where you were looking at the dates in the market that there were three Iranian women behind you not wearing hijab? Western propaganda shapes our mind and is seldom true. I look forward to seeing the rest of your adventures in Iran and hope that you are able to lose your fear. Anthony Bourdain was particularly adept at visiting countries with a bad reputation (in western media at least) and showing a different picture. Good to see that you've had a very positive experience so far.

I just love your videos and i think your reaction to being there is very human, and I get it - you name awkwardly magical perfectly. And I saw another video of a couple who cycled through Iran, and their approach was different, they just embraced the difference and went with it, ending up at wedding parties and being taken on tours of the country. There is something about completely letting go of judgement and strangeness, of others and yourself. But hey, I'm in Ireland and the furthest I got to was Spain! Go well, with love.

We fckn lost it. Gute Reise weiterhin

It's sad, but the reason for your fear is none other than the Western MSM, propaganda and political narrative that deliberately conditions people to fear everything Eastern! I don't want to be political, but once you get out of this Western 'golden cage', you realize how deceived we are and how divinely beautiful those people can actually be! And yes, Iran and the Iranian people are the most hospitable people you can get and I'm sure all world travelers would agree on that, and hopefully you would testify to that too!
